G. Thomas Rader O.D.
Dr. Rader earned his Bachelor of Science, With Honors, in mathematics, From St. Mary's Callege of Maryland in 1974. He Taught math for four years, then returned to school, and in 1983, received his Doctor of Optometry dregree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. He spent one year as an associate in a private practice in the Birmingham area. From July 1984 through June 1985, he was a Clinical Instructor of Optometry at the UAB School of Optometry. In the fall of 1985 he opened a private practice in North Suffolk, Virginia. In 1986 Dr. Rader became a provider of low vision services for the Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired. In 1994 he became a partner with Dr. Harvey Aftel in Portsmouth, Virginia. In 2015 Dr. Rader retired from private practice and jioned Allegany Optometry. He enjoys his family, being a leader in the Boy Scouts and astronomy.
